For this past semester I feel that I have learned a lot about broadcast journalism in just a few months. The things that I have learned so far is that be active is the best way to learn, have good relationship with people is very important, and that studying your craft will make your job a lot easier. Doing the hours I thought was going to be the easiest thing in this class. Especially thinking that you have about 12 weeks or so to get 36 hours is going to be the easiest things, but as I learned over this past semester that it’s easier to get the hours in the being rather than the end. Being active early in the semester is a being advantage because it then allows you to go and pick what things you want to do rather than having to go to everything because you need the hours. Working with Kevin and John this year with the Mocs Sports Talk, Podcast, and the different games we would recorded, I learned that it’s much more than just getting in front of a camera and talking. They do so much work in and out of the studio that it amazes me. They put a lot of time and effort in to the things that they do. John really helps me and Tony when it can down to doing the podcast. The first time that we did it I was really nervous because I’ve never done anything like that before. I helps that you know what you’re talking about before you get on camera because it makes the show flow a lot easier. Having John there to help us along with the process and makes sure that we are on track makes me feel more confident in what I’m saying. It’s also really fun just to talk about sports for two hours, me and tony basically disagree on everything in sports so it makes it nice that were on the show together because we balance each other out very well. The next thing is that having that good relationship with the people that are higher up then you is good to have as well. Learning everything that I can from these guys is really important to me and to what I hope to accomplish in life as I move on. Working the camera is something that I really had no idea how to do until john taught me how. It’s really important to have everything put together in the right way. John and Kevin have a good relationship with one another and it shows when their on TV together. They seem to be able to just go of the top of their heads and come up with really good ideas to talk about. They also seem very motivated to get the job done but also make the job fun for all of us to enjoy. Tony and I want to get there one day; to have that relationship with one another so that we can do as good as a job that Kevin and John has done. This past semester has taught me a lot and I hope to grow more as a broadcast student as the years go on.
